Premium Woods

Most of our Aero models feature Curly Maple tops. For these we offer as standard a medium grade wood which always has significant figure. Grades 4A to 5A in this species display intense and very tight figure. They are available as upgrades on both the Aero and Slipstream.

Quilted Maple is highly figured and found only in Western Big Leaf species of maple. In Oregon it comes from the Oregon Big Leaf, and we are proud to feature a local product as a top on both our Aero and Slipstream models.

Spalting is created by a fungal infection in the trunk of trees usually growing in a very wet environment. In Oregon it occurs in Oregon Big Leaf Maple. The degree of figure is dependent on how advanced the infection is when the tree is harvested. Late stage Spalted Maple requires significant work to stabilize when it is used in guitar building but is spectacular when finished and buffed out.
